Classroom Planning Wiki
I've spent part of my morning setting up a new wiki for classroom planning. This is one of my goals for this school year. Drawing upon the philosophy of Open Source development, connectivism, and "two heads are better then one," I've set up a wiki for people to brainstorm / suggest ideas for the units of study that we will be tackling this year in my classroom. As I've said on the wiki, I want it to be open for students in my class, parents, teachers and students from around the world, and whoever else manages to find it and stumble upon it.
This is a powerful idea that I believe has a lot of potential to engage students and parents, and to involve people from many places. I plan on getting my kids involved with this as soon as possible. I would have liked to have emailed some of the kids that I have returning to my classroom again this year (I have combined class of grade 7 and 8 kids again this year, so some of my grade 7 students are returning to me this year as grade 8's) and get them involved before the school year begins, but of course, I've managed to lose a whole lot of their addresses over the summer.....
What I would love to see in this space is kids and teachers from around the globe brainstorming along with us. Combine this planning space with our history wiki from last year which we will be adding to this year, and the kids individual blogs which we will be creating at learnerblogs the first week of school as networked, reflective spaces and these small tools begin to come together into a powerful learning environment....
