A lot of the girls in my class were away Friday to a volleyball tournament, returning, they headed to their blogs to post the results. A number of them came in to school this morning wondering why there posts were not up yet. I admitted I had a busy weekend and after Saturday morning, spent little time on my computer.
They wanted their stuff posted, they knew that other were reading and they needed their information to get online.
An interesting change in perspective. I am not their primary audience anymore. They are not writing for me to read, they are writing for a much larger audience. Many comments in to their blogs over the last 3 days from across the U.S., Canada, South Korea, Lebanon, several places in Europe. My school blog, Excellence and Imagination, which is the gateway to their blogs, has, as of this A.M. been hit over 1500 times in the past few days!
As the kids sit in my classroom writing a novel ending test that only I will read, I wonder about the significance they attach to what they are doing. We need more time to read, to think, to discuss, to write, and then read some more.
